Note:

• Candidate should have the on-paper experience in handling team of 1 to 8 Underwriters.

• International US Mortgage underwriting experience is mandatory.

Job Summary:

Purpose of the Role:

The Underwriter will review all loan documents and data in a loan file with the goal of rendering an Underwriting decision based on the loan characteristics including but not limited to Borrowers ability to repay (income, employment and assets), borrowers credit history and the collateral (property). UWs are granted Lending Authority based on their experience and their performance on initial test cases. Once Lending Authority is received, they underwrite loans in accordance with regulatory requirements, Investor guidelines and overlays.

Areas of Responsibility:

• Experience in handling team of 1 to 8 Underwriters

• Underwrites mortgage loan applications and evaluates loans to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss.

• Closely monitor individual processing pipeline, workload and volume levels for maximum balance and efficiency.

• Responsible for ensuring all documentation meets program and AUS requirements

• Reviews and validates income and asset documentation

• Reviews AUS findings

• Issues underwriting decision and notifications of clear to close

• Reviews all credit documentation

• Reviews and approves all Trusts

• Ensure adherence to any overlays

• Mortgage Insurance certs

• Issues Denials and 2nd tier manager reviews

• Suspend file if credit decisions are unable to be rendered

• Strong understanding of Desktop Underwriting (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP)

• Analyze Income & employment, credit strength, property appraisal, check over debt to Income (DTI) and Loan to value (LTV)and all other information pertinent to the credit decision process on each mortgage application, as presented by the applicant

• Underwriter to validate that a prospective mortgagors loan application adheres to the Investors, Secondary Investors (Fannie & Freddie) and guidelines of applicable government agencies to approve the loan

• Analyzing the risk involved in approving a loan to determine whether it is acceptable to the Investor or not

• Cite defects for any deficiencies observed on the loan.

• Verify accuracy of the supporting employment documents, source of down payment/ reserves, appraisal value and property title commitment received

• Review legal documents, if present, to ensure the accuracy & completeness

• Identify the mortgage insurance requirement (MI) and follow the MI guidelines, if applicable

• May lead and direct the work of others.

Knowledge, Skills required for the role:

• The ideal candidate should have 48 months of experience of independently underwriting residential mortgage loans, expert analytical skills with DU & LP experience. Plus 12 months of people management experience.

• Should have minimum 36 months of Underwriting/Re-underwriting Mortgage experience in Conventional, FHA & VA loans (Government) products

• May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or a graduation degree for India operations and High School Diploma for US Operations

• Familiar with standard mortgage concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

• Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

• Should have working knowledge with any Mortgage loan origination application.

• Excellent mathematical and statistical aptitude.
• High degree of creativity and latitude as expected

• Candidates should have good communication skills.
