Job Title: Head Nurse Nursing Department
Department: Nursing Reporting To: Rehab Administrator/ Centre Head Location: Soulfree Integrated Spinal Cord Rehabilitation Centre Work Schedule: Rotational shifts including weekends and holidays, as required
Job Summary:
The Head Nurse will be responsible for leading, supervising, and coordinating the nursing team to ensure delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care to patients with spinal cord injuries. The role involves clinical oversight, administrative responsibilities, staff training, and maintaining safety and compliance standards. The Head Nurse plays a crucial leadership role in aligning nursing practices with the rehabilitation centre’s mission, values, and patient care objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Nursing Supervision & Clinical Leadership
Oversee and manage all nursing activities in wards, wound care units, and headquarters.
Supervise the day-to-day work of nursing staff, assign duties, and manage shift rotations.
Ensure nursing protocols and treatment plans are implemented with accuracy and compassion.
Monitor patient care standards and intervene when necessary to maintain quality.
Staff Management & Training
Orient, mentor, and train new nursing staff in SCI patient care, wound management, and rehabilitation support.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to nursing personnel.
Identify training needs and organize in-service education programs to enhance clinical skills.
Promote team motivation, discipline, and adherence to ethical practices.
Wound Care Oversight
Supervise complex wound care procedures and support nurses in managing pressure sores and bedsores.
Coordinate with wound care specialists to implement and monitor treatment protocols.
Patient Care Coordination
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and caregivers to develop and review care plans.
Monitor patient progress and intervene in critical situations or emergencies.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient health records, medications, and interventions.
Administrative Duties
Maintain staff schedules and leave rosters ensuring adequate coverage across shifts.
Ensure inventory of nursing supplies, medications, and wound care materials is maintained.
Maintain nursing records, incident reports, audits, and regulatory documentation.
Compliance & Safety
Uphold infection control standards and safety protocols in all nursing areas.
Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Promote and maintain a culture of cleanliness, discipline, and dignity in patient care.
Family & Patient Engagement
Guide patients and their families in understanding the treatment process, wound care, rehabilitation, and long-term care.
Address patient grievances and ensure empathetic, timely, and satisfactory resolution.

Required Qualifications:
Educational: Diploma or B.Sc. in Nursing from a recognized institution
License: Valid Nursing Council Registration
Age: Preferrably 40 + years
Experience: Minimum 10 years of clinical experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
Preferred: Experience in spinal cord injury care, rehabilitation settings, or wound care management
Work Conditions:
Will require physical stamina and mental strength to manage critical care and administrative responsibilities.
Involves working in high-stress and emotionally intense situations.
Rotational shift work, including night duties and on-call responsibilities when needed.
