Forensic Medicine Professor

Key Responsibilities

Academic and Teaching Duties

  • Curriculum Development and Delivery:

    Design, develop, and deliver

    lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions

    in Forensic Medicine, Toxicology, and Medical Jurisprudence for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate students.
  • Student Supervision:

    Supervise and train students during

    autopsy demonstrations

    , medico-legal case discussions, evidence procedures, and practical laboratory sessions.
  • Evaluation:

    Prepare, administer, and evaluate student performance through examinations, projects, and presentations.
  • Mentorship:

    Provide academic guidance and career counseling to students, particularly those specializing in forensic medicine.

Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Research Leadership:

    Initiate, lead, and participate in

    independent or collaborative research projects

    in areas like forensic pathology and toxicology.
  • Publication and Presentation:

    Publish research findings in

    peer-reviewed scientific journals

    and present work at national and international conferences.
  • Grant Acquisition:

    Seek and secure research grants and funding from internal and external sources.
  • Professional Development:

    Stay updated on the latest advancements, legal standards, and emerging trends in the field through continuous learning.

Clinical and Medico-Legal Responsibilities

  • Forensic Examinations:

    Perform

    medico-legal autopsies

    and forensic clinical examinations to determine the cause, manner, and mechanism of death or injury.
  • Report Generation:

    Analyze forensic evidence and prepare detailed,

    scientifically sound medico-legal reports

  • Expert Testimony:

    Serve as an

    expert witness

    in court, providing clear and unbiased testimony on forensic cases to assist the judicial system.
  • Consultation:

    Provide clinical and forensic consultation to colleagues, law enforcement agencies, and legal professionals.

Administrative and Service Duties

  • Departmental Management:

    Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and various academic and administrative committees.
  • Institutional Contribution:

    Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional policies concerning forensic services and medical education.
  • Mentoring Faculty:

    Provide mentorship and supervision to junior faculty members, residents, and interns.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:

    Medical degree (

    MBBS

    ) followed by a postgraduate degree (

    MD

    or equivalent) in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology from a recognized institution.
  • Experience:

    Typically requires a minimum of

    5-10 years of experience

    in teaching forensic medicine and conducting forensic examinations, with a proven track record of academic publications.
