Ex-Customs Officer

Key Responsibilities

Customs & Import Coordination

• Prepare and manage import documentation: invoices, packing lists, COO, airway bills, test-use declaration letters, etc.
• Liaise with Customs House Agents (CHAs), shipping lines, courier companies, and customs officials for clearance.
• Handle

  cosmetic imports (non-commercial use)

  by ensuring accurate declarations and compliance.
• Track shipments end-to-end and provide timely status updates to internal teams.
• Coordinate with finance team on duty payments and clearance costs.

Regulatory Support

• Work with

  CDSCO, Port Health Authority, and other regulators

  for NOCs/approvals when required.
• Maintain a reference library of

  HS codes, import regulations, and clearance files

  for efficiency in future shipments.
• Ensure compliance with

  DGFT, Customs Act, GST, and EXIM policy

  relevant to research materials.

Operational Support

• Support procurement of consumables, lab supplies, and equipment.
• Maintain import & logistics database (Excel/Zoho) for shipment history, clearance times, and cost reports.
• Suggest process improvements to reduce delays and optimize costs.

Requirements

• Retired/Ex-Customs Officer (Group A/B)

  with hands-on experience in customs operations, investigations, or policy enforcement.
• Strong knowledge of

  import/export documentation, HS codes, customs duties, and non-commercial import procedures

  .
• Experience handling clearances in

  pharma, clinical research, CRO, medical devices, or FMCG sectors

  is preferred.
• Proven ability to coordinate with

  CHAs and customs authorities

  independently.
• Good communication skills in

  English + Hindi/local language

  .
• Proficiency with

  MS Office/Excel

  ; familiarity with Zoho/logistics tools is an advantage.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
