Job Description

Engineer (Electrical)

The Engineer (Electrical) will lead and manage all electrical engineering functions related to campus infrastructure, including planning, design, execution, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems. This role ensures reliable power distribution, safety compliance, energy efficiency, and smooth functioning of all electrical facilities across the universitys academic, residential, and administrative buildings.

Essential Qualifications:

i) First Class Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Institute/ University or equivalent.

ii) > 08 years of experience relevant experience in electrical construction, project management, and maintenance, including significant experience in infrastructure management in universities, educational institutions, government organizations, or large campuses. Having comprehensive knowledge of HT/LT systems, electrical safety standards, and regulatory compliance in India.

Desirable Qualifications:

i) Desirable Qualifications: Experience in construction / maintenance of sub-stations/ multi-storey buildings, distribution system and have experience in planning / estimation / tendering as per the norms. Good knowledge of manuals, preparations/checking of estimates, drawings, bill of quantities, substitute/deviation items statements and other associated issues related with electrical installations.

ii) Strong knowledge of contract management, tendering procedures, and project management tools.

iii) Demonstrated experience in leading large-scale construction and maintenance teams.

iv) Strong leadership, communication, and vendor coordination skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical Infrastructure Planning & Construction

  • Lead the electrical design and engineering efforts for new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.
  • Review and approve electrical drawings, load calculations, layouts, BOQs, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and government agencies for electrical installations.
  • Ensure compliance with Indian standards and regulations.
  • Monitor project budgets, timelines, and quality; provide regular progress reports to university leadership.

2. Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

  • Oversee operation, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance of:
    • HT/LT substations
    • Transformers, DG sets, UPS systems, solar power plants
    • Internal and external electrification
    • Street lighting & campus lighting systems
    • Electrical panels, distribution boards, and protection systems
  • Establish and enforce preventive maintenance schedules to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
  • Implement energy-saving and reliability enhancement strategies.
  • Maintain records of energy consumption, downtime, and defects; monitor electrical loads and optimize performance.

3. Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety standards for all electrical works.
  • Conduct periodic electrical safety audits and inspections.
  • Ensure proper earthing, lightning protection, fire safety integration, and safe operational practices.
  • Maintain all mandatory statutory documentation and coordinate for renewals/approvals from DISCOM, CEIG, and other authorities.

4. Team Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers, technicians, and support staff.
  • Plan manpower deployment and skill development programs.
  • Evaluate and manage contractors, service providers, and annual maintenance contracts (AMCs).
  • Review vendor performance and ensure adherence to SLAs.

5. Administrative & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual budgets for electrical works, including CapEx and OpEx.
  • Develop long-term infrastructure development strategies, including renewable energy integration.
  • Collaborate with academic departments for laboratory electrical requirements.
  • Prepare documentation for audits, tenders, procurement, and compliance.
