Job Description


Job Responsibilities:

1. Admit patients 16 years and older, order diagnostic/therapeutic services, history and physical, write orders/progress notes in patient charts, request/provide consultation, and render any care in life threatening emergency under the supervision of the attending consultant.

2. Emphasis is on quality of patient evaluation and care.

3. Emphasis on gaining experience with full spectrum of procedures, honing proficiency, and balancing quality of patient evaluation and care with improved overall efficiency.

4. To act under the supervision of the Consultant and to support the Consultant in their duties.

5. Rounds to Critical Care Unit and liaise with the Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge.

6. Take handover of patients from previous shift Registrar, so that continuity of care is ensured and immediate decisions are made and orders written.

7. To review patients in the Critical Care Unit on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made at the beginning of the shift and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.

8. Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.

9. To cover theater duties as assigned. To attend to emergencies when they occur or free up the consultant to attend to emergencies.

10. To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g. injuries, falls, sudden illnesses etc., suffered by patients, visitors or staff

11.To contribute to quality improvement; risk management initiatives and policy development so that the overall Service is of the highest quality and reflective of best practice.

12. To act and behave professionally and perform ones duties in a manner that optimizes patient care and protects and enhances the reputation of Hospital.

13. To adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. Code Blue, infection control, work hours and overtime.

14. To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.

15. To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital and acting as a resource for more junior colleagues.
