Job Description

Role Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted and safe electrical operations across the hospital. This includes maintaining critical electrical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, supporting biomedical and facility teams, and providing round-the-clock readiness for patient-critical equipment.

Roles & Responsibilities

Electrical Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure seamless functioning of all electrical systems, including HT/LT panels, transformers, DG sets, UPS, APFC panels, and distribution boards.
  • Conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance as per OEM, NABH, and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Monitor and manage hospital power supply, load distribution, and energy efficiency measures.
  • Ensure zero downtime for critical care areas such as ICUs, OTs, Emergency, Radiology, Cath Lab, and other vital departments.
  • Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of new electrical equipment and hospital infrastructure.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to statutory norms, electrical safety guidelines, and hospital engineering protocols.
  • Conduct periodic electrical audits, insulation testing, earth resistance checks, and safety compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal safety teams to prevent electrical hazards and fire-related risks.

Critical Equipment Support

  • Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering to maintain machine uptime in patient-critical areas.
  • Provide immediate technical support during electrical interruptions, equipment breakdowns, or emergency situations.
  • Ensure proper functioning of emergency power systems, including DG backup and UPS redundancy.

Vendor, Project & Contract Management

  • Oversee AMC vendors, contractors, and service providers for electrical equipment and systems.
  • Support facility expansion/renovation projects, including electrical planning, BOQ preparation, and execution monitoring.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and maintain service documentation.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain logs for energy consumption, breakdown reports, preventive maintenance schedules, and repair history.
  • Track electrical downtime, root cause analysis, and implement continuous improvement actions.
  • Prepare reports for auditsNABH, JCI, internal safety audits, and engineering compliance.

Team Management & Coordination

  • Supervise electricians, technicians, and support staff.
  • Conduct training sessions on electrical safety, emergency handling, and equipment usage.
  • Coordinate with departments like Facilities, Operations, Nursing, Biomedical, and Administration.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of hospital electrical systems and critical power infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with NABH/JCI engineering standards.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for healthcare equipment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, especially during emergency breakdowns.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and coordination abilities.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation practices and sustainability initiatives.

Preferred Experience

  • Work experience in hospitals, healthcare facilities, or large infrastructure setups.
  • Exposure to BMS, HVAC coordination, and UPS/DG load management.
