Position Summary As a Distinguished Software Engineer , you will play a critical leadership role in shaping, building, and scaling a next-generation, open-stack-based ecommerce platform for Walmart. You will own the architectural design, technical direction, and strategic execution for complex, large-scale distributed systems. This is a hands-on, high-impact position driving technology transformation that directly influences Walmart's ecommerce growth from a multi-million to a multi-billion-dollar business. You will provide architectural guidance, engineering leadership, and collaborate across business, product, and technical teams to deliver enterprise-grade, highly performant, scalable solutions. About the Team The Customer Accounts & Membership team is a key player in Walmart's ecommerce transformation journey. Our mission is twofold: Enable Unified Access: Deliver seamless, secure user access across Walmart's ecosystem. Develop Membership Services: Build a world-class subscription experience that becomes the preferred choice for customers. Our globally distributed team works on high-scale identity, access, and loyalty platforms that support millions of users and transactions daily. What You'll Do Architect, design, and drive realization of high-scale, cloud-native microservices platforms in the ecommerce and identity space. Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and leadership to translate business goals into scalable and secure system designs. Lead cross-functional initiatives, guiding multiple engineering teams on standards, performance, reliability, and best practices. Own technical delivery including architecture definition, code reviews, infrastructure deployment, and DevOps. Establish and evangelize reusable frameworks, patterns, and technology choices to reduce complexity and accelerate product development. Drive innovation and continuous improvement across the organization by identifying technical debt, bottlenecks, and scalability issues. Serve as a hands-on expert and mentor for senior technical talent across distributed teams. Champion Agile and DevSecOps practices, and help shape Walmart's internal developer experience. Support strategic decisions related to digital transformation, cloud architecture, and enterprise modernization. What You'll Bring 15+ years of hands-on experience building and leading engineering for large-scale, distributed platforms and microservices. Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot , and enterprise backend architectures. Strong practical experience with Big Data (e.g., Hadoop, Spark), Event-Driven Architectures , and Cloud Platforms (GCP or Azure preferred). Demonstrated success in building high-throughput, low-latency systems with massive concurrent user bases. Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD , and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.). Experience with messaging systems like Kafka , RabbitMQ, or similar. Knowledge of frontend frameworks such as React, Redux, NodeJS, TypeScript/JavaScript is a plus. Experience leading large teams or multi-team architecture initiatives in a global delivery model . Deep understanding of design patterns , security , and performance tuning in cloud-native products. Previous exposure to ecommerce , digital identity , or customer membership platforms is a strong advantage. Preferred Qualifications Proven track record of technical mentorship , guiding engineering excellence across orgs. Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and make data-driven, high-impact decisions. Experience with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies .
