Director of Engineering

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

• Define and drive engineering strategy that aligns with product goals and long-term platform evolution.
• Direct technical planning, supported by the architect, to migrate and consolidate retention products into a scalable architecture.
• Partner with Product and Design to shape roadmap priorities and technical investments, including alignment with the broader architectural roadmap.
• Champion customer-centric decision-making by partnering with product to integrate customer feedback, usage patterns, and field insights into architectural and prioritization discussions.
• Lead and support transition to single SDLC across product lines, with metrics to drive accountability across engineering team members.
• Collaborate closely with architect to align technical decisions with long-term scalability, performance, and security.
• Define product requirements and partner with cross-functional teams to responsibly integrate AI capabilities using industry tools and ethical standards.

Leadership, Development & Culture

• Manage a team of engineers across multiple product lines, fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture grounded in Gresham values.
• Set clear expectations, coach team members through feedback loops and one-on-ones, and support career growth through mentorship and learning opportunities.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement through retrospectives, post-incident reviews, and a growth mindset.
• Within the teams Agile framework, and in partnership with the Scrum Master, implement scalable planning and prioritization processes.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve team alignment and execution.

Execution & Delivery

• Own the full delivery lifecyclefrom backlog health and sprint planning to release coordination and readiness—ensuring consistency, speed, and compliance (e.g., SOC2, GDPR).
• Uphold engineering standards across the SDLC, driving code quality, testing coverage, and system reliability.
• Support and promote DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability.
• Drive a shift-left quality approach with QA teams, embedding automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end) across the development lifecycle.
• Ensure secure coding practices and proactive platform hardening in collaboration with Security and Compliance teams.
• Monitor post-release KPIs (e.g., incident rate, MTTR, uptime) and feed insights into future planning and process improvement.

Team & Collaboration

• Act as a key partner to Product and go-to-market teams to align priorities and deliverables.
• Support agile ceremonies, quarterly planning, and architectural reviews to maintain shared accountability.
• Represent Engineering in executive forums, providing visibility into risks, trade-offs, and delivery confidence.
• Incorporate customer insights from direct interactions to improve platform reliability, usability, and roadmap alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading teams or managing multiple product areas.
• Proven success leading complex platform migrations or system consolidations within SaaS environments.
• Strong grasp of Agile and Lean software development practices, including Scrum, CI/CD, and iterative delivery.
• Knowledge of SDLC maturity models and experience implementing or improving development processes.
• Effective communicator who can navigate ambiguity and drive cross-functional alignment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on Java based Platforms and Cloud based platforms like AWS will be preferred.
• Experience working on Frontend Platforms based on React or Equivalent and Typescript
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools.
• Experience in high-growth environments with evolving infrastructure.
• Experience leveraging AI/ML tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to boost developer productivity.
• Success incorporating AI capabilities into customer-facing features with measurable business impact.
