Job Description DG Operator (Diesel Generator Operator) Position Title: DG Operator Department: Engineering & Technical Services Reporting To: Technical Supervisor / Facility Manager Location: [Insert Location] Experience Required: 25 years Employment Type: Full-time Role Purpose: To operate, monitor, and maintain diesel generator (DG) sets to ensure uninterrupted power supply for facility operations, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance activities while adhering to safety protocols and operational standards. Key Responsibilities: Operation & Monitoring Operate and monitor diesel generator sets during power failures, ensuring a seamless power supply to critical services. Keep a close check on operating parameters such as voltage, frequency, fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery status. Perform periodic no-load and load tests to ensure DG readiness. Maintenance & Troubleshooting Carry out routine preventive maintenance activities like checking oil levels, coolant, filters, belts, and fuel system as per manufacturer guidelines. Identify and rectify minor operational issues and escalate major faults to technical supervisors. Maintain spare part inventories and service records . Record Keeping & Reporting Maintain daily logs of generator running hours, diesel consumption, maintenance activities, and breakdowns . Prepare and submit operational reports to the facility manager/technical lead. Safety & Compliance Follow strict safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) during operation and maintenance. Ensure compliance with statutory and environmental norms for fuel storage, emissions, and generator usage. Key Competencies & Skills: Knowledge of DG set operation, electrical systems, and mechanical components . Ability to read and interpret control panels, electrical schematics, and log sheets . Troubleshooting skills for addressing basic generator faults. Physically fit, alert, and able to work during emergency situations and odd hours if required. Basic understanding of electrical safety practices . Qualifications & Experience: Education: ITI / Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical or equivalent Experience: 25 years in operating and maintaining diesel generators within facility management, commercial buildings, hospitals, or industrial setups . Work Environment: On-site, plant room / utility area-based role
