Job description Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design and development of camera systems, including enclosures, mounts, and thermal management solutions for dash cameras, 360-degree systems, and ADAS-enabled smart cameras.
- Design robust, compact, and automotive-grade mechanical assemblies to protect camera components (e.g., CMOS sensors, lenses, ISPs) in harsh environments (vibration, temperature extremes, IP67/IP69K sealing).
- Develop thermal management solutions (e.g., heat sinks, thermal pads) to ensure optimal performance of camera hardware under high computational loads from vision AI processing.
- Collaborate with camera hardware (optics, sensors) and software (vision AI) teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with electronic and software components.
- Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and prototypes using tools like SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo, ensuring compliance with automotive standards (e.g., AEC-Q100, ISO 26262).
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and simulations for structural integrity, vibration resistance, and thermal performance of camera assemblies.
- Work with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to define mechanical specifications based on vehicle integration requirements and user scenarios.
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs, ensuring durability, manufacturability, and compliance with automotive regulations.
- Resolve mechanical design issues, providing root cause analysis and solutions for integration or performance challenges.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in automotive mechanical design (e.g., lightweight materials, modular assemblies) and propose innovations to enhance product competitiveness.
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and contribute to design reviews and technical documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably for automotive electronics or camera systems.
- Proven expertise in designing mechanical enclosures, mounts, and thermal solutions for automotive applications, ideally for vision systems (e.g., ADAS, surround-view cameras).
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo) and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for structural and thermal analysis.
- Strong understanding of automotive standards (e.g., ISO 26262, AEC-Q100, IP67/IP69K) and environmental testing (e.g., vibration, thermal cycling, shock).
- Experience with designing for manufacturability (DFM) and collaborating with suppliers for high-volume production.
- Familiarity with camera hardware components (e.g., CMOS sensors, lenses) and their mechanical integration requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and experience working with cross-functional teams and OEM/Tier-1 partners.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with automotive camera systems, such as dash cameras, 360-degree cameras, or driver monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of lightweight materials (e.g., aluminium, composites) and advanced manufacturing techniques (e.g., injection moulding, CNC machining).
- Familiarity with vision AI hardware requirements (e.g., thermal management for edge AI processors) and integration with SoCs (e.g., Qualcomm, NVIDIA).
- Prior experience in global R&D environments or with automotive OEMs defining product specifications based on consumer needs.
