Data Science Manager

You will be joining Tesco as a Data Science Manager focusing on AI Governance and Innovation. The Data Science team at Tesco is dedicated to solving complex business problems and implementing data products on a large scale. The team works across various domains such as physical stores, online platforms, supply chain, marketing, and Clubcard, promoting rotation among Data Scientists to enhance expertise in different subjects. In this role, you will be responsible for driving innovation across all business and technical domains, leading the development of data science algorithmic features, and implementing and managing AI governance frameworks to ensure ethical and responsible AI practices. You will also play a key role in setting up projects for success, framing and scoping Data Science problems, line managing data scientists, and supporting the team in their daily tasks. Collaboration with legal and technical teams to address governance issues and educate employees on AI policies will be essential. To excel in this position, you should possess a strong numerical higher degree in a mathematical, scientific, engineering, or computer science discipline with a focus on Data Science. Proficiency in Python, Machine Learning, Software Engineering best practices, and experience in designing reliable and scalable ML systems are crucial. Additionally, expertise in open-source big data technologies, cloud platforms, and managing open-source Data Science environments is required. Your role will involve leveraging your knowledge of AI technology and ethical considerations, legal and regulatory frameworks related to AI, data governance, and risk management. Strong leadership skills, experience in managing high-performing Data Science teams, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders are key qualifications. Previous experience in AI governance, collaborating with legal and technical teams, and coaching others in technical approaches will be advantageous. If you have a background or understanding of the retail sector, logistics, or e-commerce, it would be beneficial.
