Data Governance Consultant

Job Summary:

(5 to 10 years)

You will be responsible for establishing data cataloging, data lineage, classification, policy enforcement, and driving metadata governance across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage Microsoft Purview as the central data governance platform.

Establish and maintain data cataloging processes, integrating sources like Azure SQL, ADLS Gen2, OneLake, Power BI, and Databricks.

Define and enforce data classification and labeling using Purviews built-in and custom sensitivity labels.

Set up and manage business glossaries, metadata management, and stewardship workflows.

Create and monitor data lineage across the full data lifecycle (ETL/ELT pipelines, SQL, Power BI, etc.).

Work closely with Data Stewards, Owners, Architects, and Engineers to ensure data governance policies are implemented effectively.

Define and track data quality KPIs and governance metrics.

Enable role-based access control (RBAC) and policy enforcement for data assets.

Support regulatory compliance needs (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) through data discovery and impact analysis.

Deliver training and onboarding to business units on data governance best practices using Purview.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience with implementing Data governance framework using Microsoft Purview (5 -10 years).

Strong knowledge of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management.

Experience working with Azure data services: ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Synapse, Power BI, Databricks.

Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).

Knowledge of data modeling, data lineage, data classification frameworks.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience working in cross-functional teams across business and IT.
