Job Description

  • Provide expert clinical oversight for the management of critically ill patients.
  • Supervise and support intensivists, resident doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in the ICU.
  • Review complex cases and participate in critical decision-making for patient management.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards.
  • Conduct daily ICU rounds and clinical audits.

2. Administrative & Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day functioning of the ICU, including bed utilization, equipment maintenance, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance programs.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as infection rates, mortality, average length of stay, and patient satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with biomedical, pharmacy, and nursing departments for seamless operations.
  • Plan and manage budgets, manpower, and training requirements.

3. Team Development & Training

  • Mentor and train ICU medical and nursing staff in critical care practices, emergency response, and advanced life support.
  • Organize Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions, workshops, and simulations.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

4. Quality & Accreditation

  • Ensure compliance with NABH, and other relevant accreditation standards.
  • Participate in mortality and morbidity meetings, incident reporting, and root cause analyses.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and promote research initiatives in critical care.

5. Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with other clinical departments (Emergency, Surgery, Cardiology, etc.) for smooth patient transfers and multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate effectively with patient families regarding prognosis, treatment options, and care plans.
  • Represent the ICU in hospital management and quality review committees.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    MD/DNB/DM in Anaesthesiology & Critical Care.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 0608 years of post-MD experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role in ICU/Critical Care.
  • Certifications:

    ACLS, BLS mandatory; ATLS preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of hospital accreditation and quality standards
  • Effective communication and crisis management skills

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • ICU mortality and infection rates
  • Average length of stay (ALOS)
