Job Description

Job Summary:
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cranes within the shipyard or shipbuilding site. The role involves lifting, moving, positioning, and placing heavy materials, equipment, and ship components as per project requirements, while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate mobile, crawler, or overhead cranes to lift, move, and position shipbuilding materials, structural blocks, machinery, and equipment.
  • Perform pre-operational checks, routine inspections, and basic maintenance of cranes to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Follow load charts, lifting plans, and rigging instructions provided by supervisors or riggers.
  • Coordinate with riggers, signalmen, and supervisors to execute lifting operations accurately.
  • Ensure strict adherence to shipyard safety standards, including load limits and safe lifting practices.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, inspection reports, and daily operational records.
  • Report any malfunctions, safety hazards, or mechanical issues immediately.
  • Assist in general shipyard activities when cranes are not in use.
  • Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks, and continuous improvement programs.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of crane operations, lifting procedures, and rigging techniques.
  • Ability to interpret load charts, lifting plans, and technical drawings.
  • Good communication and coordination skills with team members.
  • Strong awareness of safety practices in shipyards and heavy industries.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • Valid crane operator certification/license (as per local regulatory requirements).
  • Minimum 2–5 years’ experience operating cranes in shipbuilding, heavy fabrication, or construction industry.
  • Knowledge of maritime/shipyard safety standards is an added advantage.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
