Job
Description
The Chief Process Advisor will be responsible for comparing and evaluating the specifications of supplied equipment with those specified in the UOP Schedule A Package, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, as well as various UOP Standard Specifications and Drawings before the completion of construction. This detailed examination procedure will enable you to identify, evaluate, and provide advice to avoid potential problems that may hinder a smooth startup and successful performance of the Process Unit. During the completion of checkout activities, you will provide direction for the development and implementation of a precommissioning program. This phase will involve activities such as hydrostatic testing, water flushing, leak testing, pump and compressor run-in, refractory dryout, high-temperature field tests, catalyst loading, and instrument loop checking. Following the precommissioning phase, you will review and evaluate the startup schedule and offer advice on potential improvements. You will provide operating instructions to Operations and Engineering staff to ensure they are well-versed in UOP procedures for startup, normal operations, shutdown, and handling emergency situations efficiently and safely. Your role will involve advising customer engineers and operators to achieve a smooth and beneficial startup, drawing from your experience on similar units to avoid potential pitfalls. Daily instructions will be issued to shift-working Process Advisors in coordination with the customer's operations management team to ensure a smooth continuous startup. After the initial startup, you will advise on the daily operation of the unit and recommend adjustments to optimize its performance. You will establish process guidelines to prepare the unit for a successful performance test, verifying its ability to achieve the yields represented during the design phase and serving as a benchmark for future performance comparisons. Additionally, you may conduct a detailed study of the unit, including calculations of product yields and catalyst activity/selectivity, from both a process and hydraulic viewpoint to establish a base condition useful for troubleshooting and future planning.
