Cath Lab Technician

A Cath Lab Technician assists cardiologists during invasive heart procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations, by preparing patients and equipment, monitoring vital signs, operating specialized imaging equipment, and maintaining sterile conditions. Their core responsibilities include preparing the patient, supporting the cardiologist during the procedure, monitoring the patient's condition for any changes or complications, and operating and maintaining the necessary medical equipment to diagnose and treat cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Preparation: Assess the patient's medical history, ensure they are comfortable, explain the procedure, and obtain informed consent.
• Equipment Setup: Prepare and maintain a sterile field by opening sterile packs and setting up instrument trays.
• Procedure Assistance: Assist the cardiologist by managing instruments and other supplies during the invasive procedure.
• Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs, comfort, and overall status, including hemodynamic and EKG data, to recognize any complications or abnormalities.
• Equipment Operation: Operate and troubleshoot specialized imaging equipment like fluoroscopy machines.
• Medication Administration: Administer medications to the patient under the physician's direction.
• Documentation: Accurately document procedure details and maintain patient records.
• Emergency Response: Be prepared to assist during critical emergencies and acute adverse reactions.
• Post-Procedure Care: Provide essential post-procedure care and instructions to patients.
• Inventory Management: Maintain the inventory of lab supplies and equipment.
