Cassandra Database Consultant

What you will be doing:

• Focus on project work, debugging performance degradations, audits, and health checks.
• Design and help implement new Cassandra and MongoDB deployments.
• Evaluate existing clusters and provide recommendations on best practices.
• Debug high priority issues on mission critical production environments.
• Engage with the Cassandra and Mongo DB community through user lists, irc, blog posts, webinars, and open source projects.
• Contribute to rapid brainstorming, designing and developing of prototypes.
• Automate and provide documentation on operational procedures.
• Train and mentor junior team members.
• Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical business processes to help ensure the infrastructure has adequate capacity.
• Participate in company, and team meetings.
• Continued education in Pythian s Operations as a Service supported stack.
• Provide on-call support in your team s on-call rotational schedule.

• A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience with Cassandra and MongoDB databases is required for this position.
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as Solr, Scylla, CockroachDB is an asset.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Shell, Java, Go, C#, C++, Ruby, Python, Ansible), with Shell and Python being preferred.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Experience with web applications, distributed systems and databases.
• Familiarity with multiple orchestration and configuration management systems.
• Understanding of continuous integration and automation practices.
• Knowledge of multiple monitoring, alerting and metric collection systems.
• An understanding of current IT service standards, such as ITIL.
