Job Description for Blood Bank Technician

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Diploma.
• Experience: Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or blood bank preferred.
• Skills:
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems and data entry.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect, label, and process blood donations and blood components (e.g., plasma, platelets, red cells).
• Perform blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
• Conduct infectious disease screening and quality control testing following established protocols.
• Ensure proper storage, inventory, and labeling of blood and blood products.
• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Prepare and issue blood and components for transfusion to patients as requested.
• Maintain detailed and accurate donor and patient records.
• Adhere to all safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards.
• Assist in donor recruitment, education, and counseling as needed.
• Comply with national regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., FDA, AABB, CLIA, CAP).
