About the job: Key responsibilities: 1. Use computer software and mathematical models to design, develop, and test new materials, devices, and equipment 2. Program electronics, build and evaluate prototypes, troubleshoot problems, and refine designs until they work correctly 3. Liaise with technicians and manufacturers to ensure product feasibility in terms of design and economic viability 4. Conduct research to solve clinical problems using questionnaires, interviews, and group conferences 5. Liaise closely with medical professionals such as doctors, therapists, and end-users 6. Discuss and solve problems with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and marketing departments 7. Assess the potential wider market for products or modifications suggested by health professionals or others 8. Arrange clinical trials of medical products 9. Approach marketing and industry companies to sell products 10. Write reports and attend conferences and exhibitions to present work and latest designs to technical and non-technical audiences 11. Meet with senior health service staff or managers to exchange findings 12. Handle technical queries from hospitals and GPs and provide advice on new equipment 13.
