- Experience: 2–5 years in CNC nesting and bending programming using software like Lantek, SigmaNEST, or equivalent.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of CNC press brake operation
- Understanding of sheet metal behavior, bend allowance, and tool selection
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings
✅ 2. Roles
- Create and optimize CNC programs for laser cutting and press brake machines.
- Ensure material utilization is maximized (nesting efficiency).
- Reduce programming errors that affect bending precision or material scrap.
- Provide accurate flat patterns and bending instructions to production.
✅ 3. Responsibilities
- Interpret 2D/3D drawings and convert them into CAM programs for sheet metal cutting and bending.
- Manage nesting layouts to minimize wastage of raw material.
- Select proper tooling and sequence for press brake operations.
- Coordinate with production and maintenance for smooth machine running.
- Update part libraries and version control for repeated jobs.
✅ 4. Activities
- Daily program generation for new and repeat parts.
- Nesting layout preparation for upcoming production batches.
- Back-and-forth coordination with design and production teams.
- Modify programs based on feedback or change requests.
- Maintain a programming log and nesting efficiency tracker.
✅ 5. Facilities Required
- Desktop computer with high-performance processor and CAD/CAM software installed.
- Licensed CAM software (e.g., SigmaNEST, Lantek, Metamation).
- Access to printer/scanner for printouts and documentation.
- Safety gear for shopfloor visits (shoes, helmet, glasses).
- ERP login with BOM and drawing access.
- Intra-factory transport allowance if location is far from office floor.
✅ 6. Authorities
- Authority to finalize nesting patterns for cutting and bending.
- Can reject poorly made drawings or request drawing clarifications from the Design team.
- Can suggest design changes for manufacturability.
- Access to CNC programming servers and machine data via ERP.

- Nesting yield (% material utilization).
- Number of programming errors per 100 parts.
- Downtime reduction due to optimized bending sequences.

✅ 8. Career Growth Plan
- Nesting & Bending Programmer (M2) → Production Engineer - Sheet Metal (M3) → Manufacturing Engineer - Sheet Metal (M4) → Production Manager (M6).
- Can grow horizontally into Design for Manufacturing (DFM) or CAM Specialist roles.
- Eligible for training in 3D CAD, advanced CAM, lean manufacturing.

- Reports To: Sheet Metal Line Manager (M4/M5)
- Coordinates With: Design Engineer, CNC Machine Operator, Quality Inspector, Production Planner

- Nesting and bending KPAs logged into ERP through production reports.
- Linked to drawing versions, material issue slips, and machine logs.
- Performance evaluation based on material savings, cycle time reduction, and programming accuracy.
