Backend Engineer

Role Overview: As a Backend Engineer at UBS, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and continuously improving intelligent digital products and services that support employees and HR stakeholders with AI at the core. Your responsibilities will include applying modern engineering practices, ensuring quality, security, reliability, and compliance of solutions, building observability into products, advocating for user and stakeholder needs, and contributing to a collaborative engineering culture. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and continuously improve intelligent digital products and services with AI at the core - Apply modern engineering practices such as analyzing user needs, developing new features, automated testing, deployment, and observability - Ensure quality, security, reliability, and compliance of solutions by implementing functional and non-functional requirements - Build observability into solutions, monitor production health, resolve incidents, and remediate root causes of risks and issues - Advocate for user and stakeholder needs to ensure AI solutions are explainable, ethical, and human-centric - Share knowledge openly, contribute to hiring and onboarding, and help shape a collaborative engineering culture Qualifications Required: - Minimum 6+ years of relevant work experience with strong experience in Java and Spring Boot - Proficiency in REST API and GraphQL schema design - Experience with NoSQL data modeling, data streaming, and authentication/authorization protocols - Familiarity with Azure Cloud Services - Strong commitment to quality, maintainability, documentation, and continuous learning - AI-related skills are a strong plus About the Company: UBS is the world's largest and the only truly global wealth manager, operating through four business divisions.
