Job Description

The Assistant Professor in OBG Nursing is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate nursing students, delivering quality academic instruction, guiding clinical practice in maternity and gynecological settings, participating in research and publication, and contributing to the overall functioning and development of the department.

Key Responsibilities A. Teaching Responsibilities

  • Conduct theory and practical classes in Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing.
  • Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and instructional resources.
  • Evaluate students through internal assessments, practical exams, and assignments.
  • Assist in curriculum planning, development, and revision.
  • Guide and mentor students for seminars, case studies, and skill development.

B. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in maternity wards, labour rooms, antenatal and postnatal units, and gynecology wards.
  • Demonstrate essential nursing procedures and ensure competency-based learning.
  • Coordinate clinical postings with hospitals and affiliated clinical partners.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards and patient safety during clinical training.
  • Provide counseling and guidance to students in clinical settings.

C. Research & Professional Development

  • Participate in departmental and institutional research activities.
  • Publish articles in recognized nursing/medical journals.
  • Assist students in research projects and dissertations.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and faculty development programs.

D. Administrative & Institutional Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental meetings and academic committees.
  • Assist in accreditation processes (INC, State Nursing Council, NAAC, etc.).
  • Maintain student records, attendance, and evaluation reports.
  • Organize academic events, workshops, CNEs, and seminars.
  • Support the college in community outreach and extension activities.

E. Student Support & Mentorship

  • Act as a class coordinator or mentor as assigned.
  • Provide academic and personal counseling.
  • Promote student participation in curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Help maintain discipline and a positive learning environment.

3. Qualification Requirements

  • M.Sc. Nursing (OBG Nursing specialization) – mandatory.
  • Minimum teaching experience as per INC / State Nursing Council norms.
  • Strong clinical knowledge in maternity and gynecological health.
  • Good communication and teaching skills.

  • Expertise in OBG clinical skills (labour management, antenatal & postnatal care).
  • Effective class and clinical teaching skills.
  • Leadership, teamwork, and organizational abilities.
  • Research and academic writing skills.
  • Ability to use ICT tools, simulation, and digital teaching methods.
