Job Description

As a Solar Electric Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing various solar PV systems by studying site information, client requirements, and solar data. Your creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail will be crucial in drafting layouts, diagrams, and designs using CAD and PV design tools. You will collaborate with stakeholders, project managers, and permitting teams to ensure final design packages meet safety and code requirements. Your key responsibilities include: - Planning concepts based on site information, client requirements, and solar data - Illustrating system concepts through drafting layouts, diagrams, and designs - Liaising with stakeholders to manage requirements, budgets, and project timelines - Developing designs using tools like AutoCAD, PVsyst, HelioScope, and Aurora Solar - Applying appropriate colors and layouts for clarity in proposals and presentations - Validating designs through simulations and ensuring readiness for execution - Communicating with clients, engineers, and site teams about layout decisions and revisions - Creating illustrations and layouts for PV system plans, technical proposals, and permit documents - Reviewing final layouts and recommending improvements for accuracy and compliance - Coordinating with drafting verifiers, permit preparation teams, and field technicians - Maintaining technical knowledge through workshops and publications The skills and experience required for this role include: - 15+ years of experience in solar design engineering or a related field - Proficiency in CAD tools and PV design/simulation software - Competence in Photoshop and InDesign for graphics - Strong understanding of electrical design principles and local codes - Excellent visual design sense, attention to detail, and organizational skills - Effective communication ability for stakeholder interactions - Methodical and deadline-driven with strong project management skills For education and certifications, a Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field is required. Professional certifications such as NABCEP Associate/Designer or PE license are a plus. Prior field or installation experience, such as internships as a solar installer, is highly valued.
