Job Description

Role & responsibilities

The role supports the Publications Division at Rekhta Foundation and involves editorial and translation work focused on Urdu literature in English translation. The position requires identifying significant Urdu literary texts suitable for English translation, supporting translation workflows, and assisting with editing and content preparation. The candidate is expected to deliver research-based work of scholarly integrity and high-quality output. The role demands strong language proficiency, literary sensitivity, and attention to detail. Prior experience in translation and editorial processes is essential.

Preferred candidate profile

Masters or Bachelors degree in Urdu Literature, English Literature, Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, or a related humanities discipline..

Demonstrated experience in translating Urdu texts into English and/or editing translated literary content.

- Strong foundational knowledge of classical and modern Urdu literature.

- Excellent command over both Urdu and English languages (reading, writing, comprehension).

- Proven skills in literary translation, editing, proofreading, and text selection.

Ability to identify culturally and literarily significant Urdu texts for English translation.

-Strong written communication skills and attention to literary nuance.

Sensitivity to literary context, tone, and historical background.

-Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an editorial team.

-Familiarity with digital publishing workflows and archives will be an added advantage.
