API Gateway Engineer

API Gateway Engineer Roles & Responsibilities

1. API Gateway Development & Management

• Design, implement, and manage APIs using API Gateway platforms (Apigee preferred).
  
• Define and maintain

  OAS3 specifications

  for all APIs.
• Implement policies for authentication, authorization, rate limiting, caching, request/response transformations, and routing.
  
• Ensure secure, scalable, and high-performance API deployments.
  

2. Advanced Java Development

• Develop backend services, API middleware, custom policies, and microservices using

  Advanced Java

  .
• Build reusable components to enhance API orchestration and request/response workflows.
  

3. Cloud (GCP) Engineering

• Deploy, maintain, and optimize services running on

  GCP

  resources such as:

• GKE (Kubernetes Clusters)

• Cloud IAM

  (Access & identity management)

• VPC Networking

• Cloud Functions

• Integrate APIs with cloud-native services for logging, security, monitoring, and automation.
  

4. Containerization & Deployment

• Build, package, and run microservices using

  Docker

  and containerized environments.
• Work closely with DevOps teams to optimize container builds, images, and runtime performance.
  

5. Architecture & Design

• Participate in solution design sessions and contribute to overall

  API and microservices architecture

  .
• Ensure API scalability, reliability, and maintainability through proper design patterns and best practices.
  
• Create detailed technical design documents and sequence diagrams.
  

6. CI/CD & Automation

• Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for API deployment using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Cloud Build.
  
• Automate testing, code quality checks, and security scans for API services.
  

7. Observability & Monitoring

• Implement

  end-to-end observability

  using tools like Stackdriver, Prometheus, Grafana, or Apigee Analytics.
• Set up dashboards, alerts, and traceability for API calls and microservices.
  
• Troubleshoot latency, failures, and performance issues through logs and metrics analysis.
  

8. Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with development, QA, DevOps, and cloud teams to deliver high-quality APIs.
  
• Provide L2/L3 support during production incidents.
  
• Document solutions, best practices, and runbooks for operational teams.
