Job Description

Job Title: ANM Nurse (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife)

Department: Nursing/Health Services

Reports To: Nursing Supervisor / Medical Officer

Job Summary:

The ANM Nurse is responsible for providing basic healthcare services to the community, especially women, children, and the elderly. She plays a key role in maternal and child health, family planning, immunizations, and health education. The ANM works at sub-centres, health and wellness centres, or community health projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide maternal and child healthcare, including antenatal and postnatal care.
  • Assist in childbirth, both at home and in health centers.
  • Administer immunizations and vaccines according to national schedules.
  • Provide family planning services and counseling.
  • Conduct home visits for health check-ups, education, and monitoring.
  • Participate in health education and awareness campaigns.
  • Maintain health records and reports as per government guidelines.
  • Identify and report infectious diseases and health hazards.
  • Assist in outreach programs like pulse polio campaigns, nutrition weeks, etc.
  • Support basic treatment and first aid for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Work closely with ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and medical staff.
  • Maintain hygiene and infection control in the workplace.
  • Monitor and assist in public health programs, like TB, malaria, and leprosy control.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery) from a recognized institute.
  • Registration with the State Nursing Council.
  • Basic knowledge of community health, nutrition, and maternal care.
  • Good communication skills in local language(s).
  • Ability to work in rural or remote areas.

Preferred Experience:

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in community or primary healthcare (not mandatory for freshers).
  • Experience in government health schemes is a plus.
