Accountant and Bookkeeper

Role & responsibilities

About the role:

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for executing the bookkeeping function for a block of our clients. You will have a positive impact on all our clients by ensuring they have clean, accurate, up-to-date books and accounting records, and providing support that helps them thrive and prosper.

This role is full-time and permanent. It is an in-office position.

What Your Day to Day Will Look Like:

• Execute daily bookkeeping tasks such as:

• categorization of transactions

• publish data from Dext to SAGE/QBO/Xero

• reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts

• reconciliation of accounts receivable/accounts payable and all other balance sheet accounts

• Communicate with clients by e-mail, phone, and video meetings to obtain information and clarification regarding unknown transactions

• Respond promptly to client inquiries

• Ensure bank and credit card feeds are connected properly in online accounting software (SAGE, QuickBooks Online, Xero)

• Preparation of GST/HST returns

• Month-end close procedures

• Monitoring of shareholder loan accounts to ensure accuracy

• Payables processing

• Receivables processing (creating invoices, monitoring A/R)

• Onboarding new clients, including setting up SAGE/QBO/Xero/Dext/Plooto and creating new charts of accounts

Preferred candidate profile

What You Need to Succeed:

• 1+ years experience in a similar role at a small or medium-sized firm

• Strong professional client communication skills over email, phone, and video calls

• Demonstrated skill explaining complex accounting concepts to non-accountants

• Demonstrated responsiveness to client inquiries

• Demonstrated customer-service orientation and ability to handle difficult clients gracefully

• Able to maintain complete confidentiality between clients and employees

• Very strong attention to detail, are rigorous and thorough in your work and checking your work to ensure accuracy and completeness

• Demonstrated initiative to spot and resolve problems before they develop
