Utility Piping Engineer

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Basic

• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) for utility systems such as oxygen, nitrogen, compressed air, steam networks, fuel gas systems, and dust extraction systems.
• Perform pipe sizing and pressure drop calculations.
• Select and size equipment including compressors, boosters, air receivers, dryers, buffer vessels, and pressure reducing stations.

2. Detail Design & Engineering:

• Prepare equipment general arrangements (GA), layout drawings, piping schemes, BOQs, procurement specifications, and construction drawings.
• Conduct piping stress analysis and generate piping load data for structural and civil input.

3. Review & Coordination:

• Review structural and civil drawings related to piping, systems, and equipment integration.
• Coordinate with internal teams for alignment across disciplines.

4. Technical Specifications:

• Prepare detailed technical specifications for compressed air stations, fuel gas systems, dust extraction systems, expansion bellows, spring supports, traps, strainers, etc.

5. Techno-Commercial Evaluation:

• Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of vendor offers.
• Prepare comparative statements, bid analysis, and technical recommendation reports.

6. Client & Vendor Interface:

• Participate in technical meetings with clients and suppliers to clarify requirements, discuss designs, and resolve issues.

Education & Years of Experience –

BE / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering

Skills & Competencies –

1. Strong experience in basic and detail engineering of piping and utility systems.

2. Exposure to steel plant projects preferred.

3. Proficient in AutoCAD; working knowledge of CAESAR II and experience in 3D design environments is desirable.

4. Good understanding of system design, equipment sizing, and piping layout development.

5. Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and vendors.
