Role & responsibilities Engineering Coordination A Project Manager in an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) company within the solar industry plays a critical role in overseeing the successful execution of solar power projectsfrom concept to commissioning. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the roles and responsibilities : 1. Project Planning Define scope , objectives , and deliverables in line with client requirements. Develop detailed project execution plans (PEPs) , schedules, and timelines. Work with engineering teams to review designs and technical specifications. Identify project milestones , critical paths , and dependencies. 2. Engineering Coordination Coordinate with design/engineering teams for layout, electrical design, structural engineering, etc. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international solar PV codes and standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, IS). Approve technical submittals and drawings from vendors and subcontractors. 3. Procurement Management Oversee procurement of solar modules, inverters, structures, transformers , etc. Evaluate and finalize contracts with vendors and subcontractors . Monitor delivery schedules , ensure timely arrival of equipment/materials. Ensure quality standards in procured items. 4. Construction & Execution Oversight Supervise site activities: civil works, mounting structures, panel installation, cabling, etc. Coordinate with subcontractors and ensure adherence to HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) guidelines. Resolve on-site issues promptly to avoid project delays. Conduct site inspections , quality control checks. 5. Commissioning & Handover Oversee testing, commissioning, and grid synchronization of the solar plant. Ensure compliance with utility regulations and requirements for grid connection. Prepare and submit as-built documentation , O&M manuals, and project reports. 6. Budget & Cost Management Prepare and monitor project budget and cash flow . Manage cost overruns and ensure adherence to financial goals. Approve invoices, track payments, and coordinate with finance departments. 7. Stakeholder & Client Management Act as the main point of contact between the client, EPC teams, subcontractors, and authorities. Conduct regular client meetings , progress updates, and reporting. Address client concerns and manage expectations. 8. Risk Management & Reporting Identify project risks (technical, financial, regulatory) and implement mitigation strategies. Maintain project documentation and prepare regular progress reports. Track KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) related to timeline, cost, and quality. 9. Post-Project Support Support in transitioning the project to the O&M (Operations & Maintenance) team. Ensure warranty documents, AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts), and service agreements are in place. Provide initial operational support and troubleshooting.
