Objective
To design high-precision injection moulds and tooling solutions for plastic components, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The designer is responsible for converting product designs into efficient mould designs that meet production, performance, and durability requirements.
Key Responsibilities:1. Mould Design & Development
· Study part drawings and 3D models of plastic components to design the corresponding injection moulds.
· Develop complete mould designs including core, cavity, sliders, lifters, ejectors, cooling systems, and gating layouts.
· Ensure mould design feasibility considering mould flow, shrinkage, draft angles, venting, and parting line aspects.
· Design 2-plate, 3-plate, hot runner, and multi-cavity moulds as per part and production requirements.
· Optimize mould design for easy maintenance, shorter cycle times, and improved tool life.
2. Coordination & Support
· Work closely with product design, tool room, production, and quality teams to ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
· Participate in project meetings and provide design inputs for new product development (NPD).
3. Technical Evaluation & Documentation
· Conduct design reviews to identify potential design risks and propose corrective actions.
· Maintain mould design data, revision history, and engineering documentation.
· Support cost estimation for new mould designs and modification projects.
· Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety norms, and company specifications.
Software Proficiency:
· Mandatory: UG NX / Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA for 3D mould design.
· Optional / Advantage: AutoCAD, Moldflow / Moldex3D (for flow simulation), MasterCAM (for tool path generation).
Technical Skills & Competencies:
· Strong knowledge of mould types, gating systems, cooling layouts, and ejector mechanisms.
· Understanding of plastic material behavior, mould shrinkage, and flow characteristics.
· Knowledge of hot runner systems, standard mould components (DME, Hasco, etc.), and parting surface design.
· Awareness of machining, EDM, and polishing processes used in mould manufacturing.
· Analytical thinking with good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
· Excellent attention to detail and precision in design.
· Effective communication and teamwork with cross-functional teams.
