Mode of Employment:C2H Technical Skills Requirements All engineers must have the ability to work with or possess working knowledge in the following areas: Operating Systems: Windows, Unix, Linux Databases: MSSQL Transact Releases: R22 and higher Frameworks: TAFJ Programming Languages: InfoBasic, Java, Python (nice to have) User Interfaces: Classic, BrowserWeb, Transact Explorer (nice to have) Scripting Languages: Bash, sh Tools: JIRA, Confluence, Putty, Tectia or WinScp, ServiceNow DevOps Tools: Design Studio, DSF Packager, GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, UCD Development Skills The following development skills are expected collectively from the engineering team, ensuring that diverse requirements can be developed and delivered. While individual engineers may specialize in certain areas, the team as a whole must cover the full range of capabilities: Application programming Basic Java programming Application menus Subroutines Version and enquiry design Single and multi-threaded routines Local reference tables and fields Composite/tabbed screen designing Single customer view in Transact Role-based home pages Migration to Transact Explorer (nice to have) Archival, data masking, and purging TAFJ installation and configurations File-based and real-time interfaces development (both internal and external to the bank) DFE API Framework including IRIS TOCFEE including TCServer, JMS TWS IF Events MQ setup Dormancy framework Extensibility Framework (nice to have) System performance optimization including COB Redesigning local code DB indexes General Transact WAS configurations Application configuration in WebSphere Application configuration in SQL TAFJ configuration Tivoli scripts Decommissioning modules and local development Back to core (specific to modules below) Soft Skills Requirements All engineers must possess the following soft skills: Basic UK Banking domain knowledge: Engineers should have a foundational understanding of the UK banking sector, including its regulatory environment, common banking practices, and key terminology. This knowledge will enable them to better comprehend the requirements and constraints associated with their tasks. Requirement gathering: Engineers must be adept at collecting and defining project requirements from stakeholders to ensure that all user needs and business goals are accurately captured and addressed in the development process. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities: Engineers are expected to analyse complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. This involves critical thinking, logical reasoning, and the use of data to inform decision-making. Understanding of agile principles and frameworks: Engineers should be well-versed in agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban. They must understand core concepts such as iterative development, continuous improvement, and flexibility in response to change. Ability to break down features into tasks and stories: Engineers should be proficient in decomposing high-level features into manageable tasks and user stories. This skill is vital for effective sprint planning and ensuring that all aspects of a feature are addressed. Effective communication skills: Engineers need to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients. This involves both written and verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to convey complex technical information in an understandable manner. Documentation skills: Engineers must produce clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation. This includes technical specifications, user guides, and process documentation, which are essential for maintaining project clarity and continuity. Time management: Engineers should possess strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently. This includes prioritizing work, managing time effectively, and ensuring that all deliverables are completed on schedule. Conflict resolution: Engineers should have the ability to identify and resolve conflicts within the team or with stakeholders in a constructive manner. This involves negotiating solutions that satisfy all parties involved and maintaining a positive working environment. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools: Engineers are expected to be familiar with DevOps principles and tools that facilitate continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automation.
