Job Summary:

The Disk Image Backup Architect is a senior-level role responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the organization's enterprise-wide data protection and disaster recovery strategy. This role focuses on architecting scalable, secure, and reliable disk-based backup and recovery solutions. The architect will be a subject matter expert, responsible for evaluating new technologies, defining best practices, and ensuring that all data protection systems meet business RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architectural Design & Strategy:

• Design and architect comprehensive disk image backup and recovery solutions for on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for data protection, including capacity planning, technology upgrades, and cost optimization.
• Evaluate and select backup software and hardware solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Acronis, msp360) based on business requirements and technical feasibility.
• Define and document all backup and disaster recovery policies, virtualization, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.

• Implementation & Management:

• Lead the implementation of new backup systems and the migration from legacy solutions.
• Oversee the configuration and administration of backup infrastructure, including master and media servers, storage repositories, and deduplication appliances.
• Ensure the successful execution of backup jobs, troubleshooting and resolving any failures or performance issues.

• Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:

• Design and implement a robust disaster recovery (DR) plan, including off-site data replication and failover strategies.
• Regularly conduct and lead disaster recovery tests to validate RPO and RTO metrics and identify areas for improvement.

• Collaboration & Leadership:

• Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Create detailed documentation, diagrams, and runbooks for all backup and recovery processes.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data protection.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in the backup domain, with a strong focus on image backup and virtualization solutions.
• Proven experience in designing and architecting complex backup environments for large-scale organizations.
• Hands-on expertise with at least two major enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Dell EMC Data Protection Suite).
• Experience with disk-based backup technologies, including deduplication appliances.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their integration with backup solutions.

• Technical Skills:

• Experience in C, C++, C# and go lang.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, websocket) as they relate to data transfer and backups.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

• Soft Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
