As the technical heartbeat of Habit, you will own the architecture, engineering culture, and delivery. Partnering with Product, Ops, and Leadership, you will be the single technical point-of-contact, setting high standards for speed and quality while scaling a 10-minute food delivery platform. Your responsibilities will include: - Defining the overall architecture and system design including APIs, data layer, authentication, caching, jobs, and analytics. - Balancing feature delivery with technical debt while owning the tech roadmap. - Setting up delivery discipline through reviews, testing, release processes, and deployment safety. - Building secure, scalable cloud infrastructure with a focus on networking, secrets management, backups, and disaster recovery. - Implementing monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and incident playbooks. - Serving as the escalation point for technical decisions and incidents. - Hiring, mentoring, and growing a high-ownership engineering team. Key qualifications required for this role: - Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, system design, concurrency, and distributed systems. - 7+ years of experience in building and scaling backend systems in production with proven ownership of architecture and delivery. - Expertise in one or more backend languages, with Java preferred and Python/Kotlin also acceptable. - Strong relational database experience covering schema design, indexing, tuning, and transactions. - Cloud proficiency, preferably in GCP, with familiarity in AWS/Azure/OCI, containers (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes). - Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform/CloudFormation), and safe deployment practices. - Practical knowledge in observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, tracing, and incident management. - Some exposure to data pipelines and machine learning integration points. - Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with Product, Ops, and Leadership. - Previous experience in hiring, mentoring, and building small engineering teams.
