Job Description

Role Overview: You will be responsible for planning and preparedness in terms of contingency and disaster risk reduction/mitigation. Your role will involve building capacities of NGOs, CBOs, youths, and other stakeholders on disaster preparedness. Additionally, you will be required to carry out disaster risk assessments, develop plans to reduce damage caused by natural hazards, identify vulnerable locations, and mobilize communities for intervention programs. Conducting trainings, coordinating with grassroots/community stakeholders, and building partnerships with various stakeholders for effective disaster risk reduction implementation will also be part of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will need to keep track of weather advisories and serve as the main point of contact for disaster response. Key Responsibilities: - Plan and prepare for disaster risk reduction/mitigation efforts - Build capacities of NGOs, CBOs, youths, and key stakeholders on disaster preparedness - Carry out disaster risk assessments and hazard risk vulnerability assessments - Develop plans to reduce damage caused by natural hazards - Identify vulnerable locations and mobilize communities for intervention - Conduct trainings for communities/stakeholders on disaster preparedness - Coordinate with grassroots/community stakeholders for effective implementation of disaster preparedness/mitigation procedures - Conduct capacity building for selected individuals (volunteers) in disaster risk - Build partnerships with various stakeholders for effective disaster risk reduction implementation - Keep track of weather advisories and serve as the main point of contact for disaster response Qualification Required: - Necessary: Graduation/Post Graduation in Climate Change/Environmental Science/Natural Resource Management/Disaster Management - Desired: Background in the development sector Additional Details: The role requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in disaster management/response, with a preference for experience in community-based disaster risk reduction/mitigation planning. The ideal candidate should demonstrate proficiency in leadership attributes, an entrepreneurial mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and knowledge of the development sector.
