As a Tax Research Specialist, your main responsibility will be to contact county tax offices, municipal agencies, and local authorities to gather property tax information using various communication methods such as phone, email, or online portals. You will be tasked with researching and interpreting different tax calculation methods including millage rates, assessed values, exemptions, and special assessments. It will be crucial for you to accurately record and maintain tax data in internal systems to support mortgage servicing, escrow analysis, or loan origination processes. Collaboration with internal departments like Escrow, Loan Servicing, and Title will be essential to ensure the timely procurement and validation of tax data. You will need to promptly identify and report any issues such as discrepancies in tax records or difficulties in accessing tax offices. Adhering to state and federal regulations concerning tax information handling is paramount in this role. You will be expected to manage multiple tax inquiries concurrently while upholding accuracy and meeting deadlines. Staying updated on evolving tax regulations, deadlines, and procedures across various U.S. jurisdictions will be essential. In terms of qualifications, a bachelor's degree is preferred for this position. Prior experience in mortgage, real estate, tax research, or related fields will be advantageous. Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly phone etiquette, are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Excel, Word, and familiarity with tax software platforms are essential.
