Job Description

A surgical oncologist's job description centers on the surgical treatment of cancer, involving performing procedures to remove tumors, collaborating with other specialists, providing pre- and post-operative care, and educating patients. Responsibilities also include diagnosing and staging cancer, developing individualized treatment plans, participating in research and clinical trials, and supervising medical trainees. The role requires extensive surgical expertise and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:Diagnosing various cancers through clinical evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with medical and radiation oncologists, and coordinating care to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Surgical Intervention:Performing complex surgical procedures to remove cancerous tumors and affected tissues, including minimally invasive and robotic surgeries.
  • Pre- and Post-Operative Care:Providing essential care to patients before and after surgery, managing their recovery process, and addressing symptoms related to cancer.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and radiologists.
  • Research and Education:Participating in clinical research and trials to improve surgical techniques, contributing to clinical trial design, and educating patients and their families about their diagnosis and treatment options.
  • Professional Development and Leadership:Staying updated on the latest advancements in surgical oncology, supervising and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and participating in tumor boards and case discussions.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Medical Degree and Residency:A bachelor's degree followed by a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Specialized Training:Completion of a general surgery residency, followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology, and appropriate licensing.
  • Surgical Expertise:Mastery of advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery.
  • Multidisciplinary Skills:Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with various healthcare professionals.
  • Clinical Judgment:Ability to make sound clinical decisions, especially in complex cases, and to assess the risks and benefits of surgical interventions.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹200,000.00 - ₹350,000.00 per month
