Job Description

Qualification - MBBS with MS/FCPS/DNB General Surgery

Experience - 1-2 Years

  • To examine all new in-patients, check past medical records and mention allergy, chief complaints, relevant history, systemic examination findings, current medication, provisional diagnosis, final diagnosis, surgery done (if any), notes, plan of care (in coordination with the consultant) in the medical record.
  • Let the patient or his relative go through all the details and take his signature on the history sheet.
  • Inform the respective consultant about the admission and follow his orders.
  • To write medication orders in the treatment sheet with start date and time as well as omit date and time. To cross check the medication orders if mentioned by the Resident Medical Officer (where applicable) in the treatment sheet.
  • To impart relevant patient education as and when required.
  • Instruct the nursing staff about the necessary orders to be carried out.
  • To check if the medications have been administered by the nursing staff as prescribed.
  • To mention date, time, name and signature against all entries in the medical record.
  • To take relevant consents from the in-patient as and when required.
  • To take in-patient rounds independently and with Consultant / Clinical Associate.; carry out the necessary changes in the orders after entering them in the treatment sheet and inform the nursing staff on duty about the same.
  • To follow up on the investigations ordered, note down the results in the investigation sheet and inform the Consultant.
  • To inform the anesthetist on duty about the patient posted for surgery.
  • To mention pre-operative orders in the medical record.
  • To perform site marking before shifting the patient to operation theatre.
  • To assist the consultant in the operation theatre.
  • To mention operation notes and post-operative plan of care in the medical record.
  • To perform clinical procedures in the ward and supervise the same if being done by the Resident Medical Officer (R.M.O.).
  • To assess the in-patient for transfer in to or transfer out of I.C.U. or ward, as applicable and complete the transfer summary.
  • To conduct a case review for patients exceeding 15 days of in-patient stay as well as for patients with more than three references.
  • To attend to patients complaints and keep the consultant informed about the clinical condition of the patient.
  • To enter appropriate & mandatory information regarding the patient in ward module of HIMS.
  • To coordinate with the consultants for discharge.
  • To prepare & verify the discharge summary, explain the advice on discharge to the in-patient.
  • To attend to all emergencies while on call.
  • To provide hand over to the registrar on call on the next day.
  • To impart training to the resident medical officers.
  • To abide by the policies & procedures of the hospital.
  • E lp ensure compliance with JCI standards & closure of the non-conformities.E
