Tool Room - Surface Grinder & Milling Operator Department: Tool Room / Manufacturing Location: Dombivali East Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor / Production Manager Job Summary: Responsible for operating surface grinding machines to manufacture, modify, or repair precision components, tools, and dies as per drawing specifications. Ensures components meet tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes required for tooling applications. Key Responsibilities: Operate surface grinding machines (manual or CNC) with precision and accuracy. Understand and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions. Perform surface grinding on various metals (hardened steel, mild steel, etc.) for components like dies, punches, plates, and other tooling parts. Maintain close tolerances (within ±0.01 mm or as specified). Select and dress grinding wheels based on material and finish requirements. Set up workpieces using magnetic chucks, vices, and proper clamping techniques. Inspect finished components using micrometers, height gauges, surface finish comparators, and other measuring tools. Maintain machine cleanliness, routine lubrication, and minor maintenance. Ensure job documentation, daily reports, and quality inspection sheets are properly filled. Work in coordination with tool makers, CNC operators, and quality teams. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workstation. Skills and Qualifications: ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die, Machinist, or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 2-5 years of experience in surface grinding operations. Knowledge of material hardness, grinding wheel types, and dressing techniques. Ability to work independently and produce high-precision parts. Familiarity with other tool room machines (e.g., milling, lathe, EDM) is a plus.
