Tool Room - Surface Grinder & Milling Operator Department: Tool Room / Manufacturing Location: Dombivali East Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor / Production Manager Job Summary: Responsible for operating surface grinding machines to manufacture, modify, or repair precision components, tools, and dies as per drawing specifications. Ensures components meet tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes required for tooling applications. Key Responsibilities: Operate surface grinding machines (manual or CNC) with precision and accuracy. Understand and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions. Perform surface grinding on various metals (hardened steel, mild steel, etc.) for components like dies, punches, plates, and other tooling parts. Maintain close tolerances (within ±0.01 mm or as specified). Select and dress grinding wheels based on material and finish requirements. Set up workpieces using magnetic chucks, vices, and proper clamping techniques. Inspect finished components using micrometers, height gauges, surface finish comparators, and other measuring tools. Maintain machine cleanliness, routine lubrication, and minor maintenance. Ensure job documentation, daily reports, and quality inspection sheets are properly filled. Work in coordination with tool makers, CNC operators, and quality teams. Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workstation. Skills and Qualifications: ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die, Machinist, or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 2-5 years of experience in surface grinding operations. Knowledge of material hardness, grinding wheel types, and dressing techniques. Ability to work independently and produce high-precision parts. Familiarity with other tool room machines (e.g., milling, lathe, EDM) is a plus. As a Tool Room Die Maker, you will be responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining precision components, tools, and dies to ensure accuracy within a tolerance of 0.01 mm. This role requires a hands-on professional capable of independently managing all aspects of tool room operations. Your key responsibilities will include independently operating and maintaining Lathe and Surface Grinding machines to produce precision components. You will manufacture, assemble, and repair high-precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and components while ensuring that finished components meet exact specifications and tolerances of 0.01 mm or better. In addition, you will be responsible for setting up, programming (if CNC), and operating all tool room machinery, including milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, and other equipment. You will machine and finish components from raw materials, ensuring high-quality finishes and precise dimensions. As part of your role, you will use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMM machines to inspect and verify dimensions. You will perform regular quality checks during and after machining to ensure compliance with required tolerances and standards. Furthermore, you will maintain and recondition tools, dies, and fixtures to ensure optimal performance and troubleshoot and resolve any machining or tool-related issues during the manufacturing process. Collaboration with engineers and production teams to improve tooling designs and address technical challenges is also a key aspect of this role. To succeed in this position, you should have proven experience as a Tool Room Die Maker, with expertise in operating Lathe and Surface Grinding machines. You should be able to work independently, manage multiple machines and operations, and have a strong understanding of machining processes, tool design, and material properties. Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments to achieve tolerances within 0.01 mm, as well as the ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications, are essential. Preferred qualifications include certification or a diploma in Tool & Die Making, Machining, or a related technical field, familiarity with CAD/CAM software for designing and programming (if applicable), and experience in maintaining and troubleshooting tool room machinery.
