Storm Surge Specialist using Machine Learning

Join a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians developing catastrophe models for the insurance and reinsurance industries at Verisk. You will be at the forefront of generating innovative solutions using machine learning and high-resolution numerical weather models to simulate storm surge inundation in line with a changing climate. **Key Responsibilities:** - Contribute to pioneering storm surge research and model development, utilizing machine learning and numerical modeling. - Develop process improvements to enhance model performance. - Maintain and develop the codebase, applying best practices in version control (e.g. Git). **Qualifications:** - Expertise in physics-informed machine learning algorithms. - Proficiency in deep learning architectures, especially Convolutional Neural Networks and Recurrent Neural Networks. - Experience in managing large, complex datasets efficiently. - Strong grasp of data engineering for model training. - Proficiency in a Linux-based high-performance computing environment. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear technical concept conveyance. - Solution-oriented mindset focused on delivering scalable, high-quality solutions. - Thorough understanding of model evaluation metrics and uncertainty quantification. - Proficiency in Python, with knowledge of R also accepted. - Statistical analysis skills. - Experience with modeling on GPU architectures. - Proficient in version control using Git. **Requirements:** - Ph.D. in oceanography or atmospheric science heavily utilizing data science, applied mathematics, or related fields; or Masters with 3+ years of relevant experience.
