Job Description

Join a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians developing catastrophe models for the insurance and reinsurance industries. At Verisk, we are leading the way in generating new solutions based on machine learning and high-resolution numerical weather models to simulate storm surge inundation consistent with a changing climate. We are seeking an oceanographer or statistician to advance the expansion, support, and delivery of the hazard component of storm surge peril models. Your work will inform risk and capital management decisions globally. Qualifications Expertise in physics-informed machine learning algorithms Proficiency in deep learning architectures, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks and Recurrent Neural Networks Experience in handling large, complex datasets for efficient utilization Strong understanding of data engineering for model training Experience in a Linux based high performance computing environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly. A solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering scalable, high-quality solutions. Strong understanding of model evaluation metrics and uncertainty quantification Expert in Python preferred, R also accepted Statistical analysis skills Experience with modelling on GPU architectures Version control in Git Requirements Ph.D. in oceanography or atmospheric science, that makes heavy use of data science, applied mathematics, or a related field; or Master s with 3+ years of relevant experience. Key Responsibilities Contribute to pioneering storm surge research and model development in a framework where machine learning and numerical modeling are the basis of the storm surge modeling. Develop process improvement to optimize model performance Develop and maintain codebase, apply version control (e.g. Git) best practices
