Job Description Store Keeper 

Job Title:Store Keeper
Department:Stores / Materials Management Location:Factory / Manufacturing Unit Reporting To: Plant Manager

Key Responsibilities

Material Receipt & Inspection

Receive raw materials, bought-out components, consumables, and spares as per Purchase Orders.

Verify quantity, specification, heat number, batch number, and supporting documents (Invoice, Delivery Challan, Test Certificate).

Coordinate with QA/QC for material inspection and clearance, especially for safety-critical railway components.

Maintain proper GRN (Goods Receipt Note) records.

Storage & Preservation

Store materials systematically with proper identification, tagging, and bin location.

Ensure segregation of accepted, rejected, and under-inspection materials.

Maintain proper storage conditions to avoid damage, corrosion, or deterioration.

Ensure FIFO / FEFO practices are followed.

Material Issue & Control

Issue materials to production, machining, welding, assembly, and maintenance departments against authorized Material Requisition Slips.

Ensure correct material grade and quantity is issued as per BOM and production plan.

Maintain traceability records for railway coupler components.

Inventory Management

Maintain accurate stock records in ERP / SAP / Tally / manual registers.

Conduct periodic physical stock verification and reconcile discrepancies.

Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels and raise indent requirements.

Control non-moving, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain inward and outward registers, bin cards, stock ledgers, and inspection reports.

Support internal, external, and railway audits (RDSO / IRIS / ISO).

Ensure compliance with company SOPs and railway manufacturing standards.

Coordination & Housekeeping

Coordinate with Purchase, Production Planning, QA/QC, and Finance departments.

Ensure proper housekeeping and safety norms in stores area.

Follow EHS guidelines and material handling safety practices.

 

Qualification & Experience

Education:Diploma / ITI / Graduate (any discipline preferred Mechanical).

 

Experience:

3-6 years in manufacturing stores, preferably in railway, heavy engineering, or EPC industry.

Experience in handling safety-critical components is an added advantage.

 

Work Conditions

  • Factory shop-floor environment.
  • Rotational shifts, if required.
  • Handling of heavy materials using forklifts, cranes, etc.
