Job Description

As a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse, you will be responsible for assessing the condition of critically ill children and monitoring their vital signs. Ensuring the safety and comfort of the patient is crucial, which may involve positioning, lifting, or turning pediatric patients. Providing age and culturally appropriate care to both the patient and their family is essential. Your role will also include monitoring and recording the patient's condition, reporting any changes to the physician, and assisting doctors during examinations and surgical procedures. Offering emotional support and education to the patient's family about care processes and disease management is an integral part of your responsibilities. It is imperative to ensure that all medical devices in the PICU are functioning properly. In the role of an Intensive Care Unit (IVF) Nurse, you will perform patient assessments using appropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific techniques. Continual critical care assessment of the patient and family's physical and psychological needs is essential, along with involving them in the plan of care when appropriate. Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care, coordination and planning of critical care/clinical pathways based on individual needs, and initiating appropriate transfer plans are key aspects of this role. You will be responsible for recognizing subtle cues to anticipate potential problems, documenting all relevant data in the medical record according to hospital/departmental standards, and ensuring the availability and maintenance of necessary supplies and equipment for patient care. Participation in staff meetings, unit committees/projects, and ongoing educational activities is expected. Maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, handling and administering medications as directed by policies and procedures, and completing yearly critical care nursing competencies are part of your responsibilities.
