Job Description

Job Summary:

The Emergency Staff Nurse is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and quality nursing care to patients in emergency situations, particularly in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatal emergencies. The role requires quick decision-making, effective communication, and hands-on clinical skills to stabilize patients and support doctors in life-saving procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide immediate nursing care to maternity and gynecological emergency cases.
  • Assist doctors during emergency procedures such as labor complications, postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, neonatal resuscitation, etc.
  • Perform triage of incoming emergency patients and prioritize care based on condition severity.
  • Administer prescribed medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, and emergency drugs as per protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, fetal heart rate, and patient condition during emergencies.
  • Prepare and maintain emergency equipment, crash carts, and labor room instruments.
  • Assist in emergency surgical interventions (e.g., C-sections, D&C procedures).
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families in crisis situations.
  • Ensure infection control, safety standards, and adherence to hospital and NABH protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, emergency interventions, and handover reports.
  • Participate in mock drills, CME programs, and continuous skill upgradation in obstetric emergencies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:

    GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid registration from State Nursing Council.
  • Experience:

    13 years of experience in emergency / maternity / obstetric care preferred.
  • Skills:

    • Strong clinical and emergency management skills.
    • Knowledge of obstetric emergencies and neonatal resuscitation.
    • Ability to work under pressure and in high-stress situations.
    • Effective communication, teamwork, and patient-handling skills.
    • Familiarity with NABH and hospital protocols.
