Job Summary

The Chemotherapy Staff Nurse provides specialized nursing care to oncology patients receiving chemotherapy. They are responsible for safely administering cytotoxic agents, monitoring patients for adverse effects, maintaining accurate documentation, and offering emotional support to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care & Chemotherapy Administration

• Verify chemotherapy orders as per oncologists prescription.
  
• Prepare and administer chemotherapy drugs following safety protocols (using PPE and biosafety cabinets as required).
  
• Monitor patients during and post-chemotherapy for side effects or adverse reactions.
  
• Maintain IV lines, ports, or central lines as per standard procedures.
  
• Provide pre- and post-chemotherapy education and counseling to patients and families.
  

2. Infection Control & Safety

• Adhere strictly to infection control and cytotoxic waste disposal guidelines.
  
• Maintain cleanliness and asepsis in the chemotherapy unit.
  
• Handle and dispose of cytotoxic materials as per biomedical waste protocols.
  

3. Documentation & Coordination

• Document all nursing activities, vital signs, drug administration, and observations accurately.
  
• Report any unusual patient reactions or incidents to the medical officer immediately.
  
• Coordinate with pharmacy, lab, and medical staff for smooth delivery of care.
  

4. Patient Education & Support

• Educate patients and caregivers on chemotherapy side effects, self-care, nutrition, and signs of complications.
  
• Offer psychosocial support and empathy to patients coping with cancer treatment.
  

Qualifications

• Education

  : GNM / B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution
  

• License

  : Registered Nurse with the State Nursing Council
  

• Experience

  : Minimum 1–2 years of experience in oncology or chemotherapy nursing preferred
  

• Certification

  : Training or certification in chemotherapy handling (preferred)
  

Skills Required

• Sound knowledge of chemotherapy drugs and protocols
  
• Strong communication and patient counseling skills
