Job Description (JD) – Staff Nurse (Critical Care & ICU)Designation

Staff Nurse – ICU / Critical Care

Department

Critical Care & Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

1. Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide 24×7 comprehensive nursing care to critically ill ICU patients.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, neurological status, and oxygen saturation.
  • Care and monitoring of patients on ventilators, BiPAP, HFNC, and oxygen therapy.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products as per doctor’s orders.
  • Perform and assist in:
  • IV cannulation
  • Suctioning (ET/Tracheostomy)
  • Catheter care
  • Wound & pressure sore prevention
  • Ensure accurate intake–output charting and fluid balance.

2. Emergency & Life Support

  • Identify early signs of patient deterioration and inform duty doctor/consultant immediately.
  • Assist in CPR, Code Blue, intubation, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain readiness of crash cart, emergency drugs, and equipment.
  • Follow ACLS/BLS protocols during emergencies.

3. Infection Control & Patient Safety

  • Follow strict infection control practices including hand hygiene and PPE usage.
  • Prevent HAIs (VAP, CAUTI, CLABSI) through adherence to ICU bundles.
  • Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation as per hospital policy.
  • Maintain patient safety measures (fall prevention, pressure sore prevention).

4. Documentation & NABH Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing notes and ICU charts.
  • Ensure completion of:
  • Medication records
  • Nursing care plans
  • Consent verification
  • Incident reporting
  • Comply with NABH standards, hospital SOPs, and legal requirements.

5. Equipment & Asset Management

  • Operate and monitor ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, syringe pumps safely.
  • Ensure proper functioning and cleaning of ICU equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunction immediately.

6. Communication & Coordination

  • Coordinate with doctors, RMOs, respiratory therapists, lab, and radiology.
  • Communicate patient condition to seniors clearly and promptly.
  • Provide emotional support and basic guidance to patient attendants within hospital policy.
  • Ensure proper shift handover and continuity of care.

7. Training & Professional Development

  • Participate in ICU training programs, mock drills, CPR training, and CME.
  • Guide and support junior nurses and trainees.
  • Maintain valid Nursing Council registration and certifications.

8. Administrative & Ethical Responsibilities

  • Follow duty roster, punctuality, discipline, and hospital rules.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical nursing practice.
  • Assist during disasters, epidemics, and mass casualty situations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • GNM / B.Sc Nursing
  • Registered with State Nursing Council
  • ICU experience preferred
  • BLS / ACLS certification desirable

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹55,449.58 per month
