Staff Engineer Python

The company, Modern Data Company, is focused on simplifying how organizations manage, access, and interact with data through its data operating system, DataOS. As part of the CTO Office, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing foundational systems for the DataOS platform. We are seeking a backend engineer with expertise in Python or Go, who excels in solving core infrastructure challenges and creating enduring systems. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing scalable backend services and APIs, building high-performance systems and data pipelines, writing clean and maintainable code, collaborating with various teams, participating in system design and architecture planning, and optimizing distributed systems for performance and reliability. Key Responsibilities: - Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs using Python or Go - Build and maintain high-performance systems and data pipelines for core product features - Write clean, testable, and modular code that scales and is easy to maintain - Collaborate with DevOps, platform, and product teams for seamless integrations - Participate in system design, code reviews, and architecture planning - Contribute to open-source tools and troubleshoot distributed systems - Define and evolve foundational platform building blocks Requirements: - Minimum 4 years of experience in building backend systems or platform services - Proficiency in Python (experience with Go is advantageous) - Ability to design, build, and scale robust APIs and backend infrastructure - Understanding of system design principles and distributed systems - Proficient in SQL and working with data-centric applications - Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) - Experience with modern development practices like CI/CD, testing, and version control Good to Have: - Knowledge of event-driven architectures and asynchronous systems - Familiarity with gRPC, GraphQL, or modern API protocols - Exposure to cloud-native platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - Open-source contributions or a strong GitHub profile - Hands-on experience with data warehouses, data lakes, or modern data platforms - Previous work on developer-facing tools or internal platform services Modern offers a value system based on HEAT: Humility, Empathy, Accountability, and Transparency.
