Staff Engineer - Backend Engineering, Digital Business

The Staff Engineer, Backend Engineering in Digital Business at Sony Pictures Networks, located in Bangalore, is responsible for leading the architecture, design, and development of scalable backend systems that support SonyLIV's digital experiences. As a technical leader and mentor, you will ensure high performance, reliability, and innovation across services and platforms. Your role will involve collaborating with internal stakeholders such as Frontend Engineering, DevOps, QA, Product Management, Data Engineering, and Security, as well as external partners like tech vendors, third-party APIs/integrations, and CDN partners. To qualify for this position, you should have a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with hands-on experience with scalable backend systems, cloud platforms, and modern backend stacks such as Node.js, No/SQL, REDIS, and Kafka. This role requires strong coding skills with a focus on architecture, design, and development of scalable backend services for SonyLIV's core OTT platform. You will also be responsible for architecting microservices, mentoring junior engineers, conducting design/code reviews, and promoting best practices within the team. Key responsibilities include owning end-to-end critical services, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and release product features, ensuring service uptime and performance through effective monitoring, contributing to technical strategy and architectural decisions, and driving automation, CI/CD, and deployment excellence. As a successful candidate, you should have expertise in scalable backend architecture, RESTful API design, RDBMS/NoSQL databases, message queues, event-driven systems, cloud-native infrastructure, containerization, caching strategies, security principles, and system design. Additionally, familiarity with observability tools is essential for this role.
