In this role as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Microsoft SCHIE, you will be responsible for the design & development of mechanicals for the Data Processing Unit (DPU) based hardware platforms. Your main tasks will include: - Taking ownership of mechanical projects from concept to production, working with a team of engineers to develop innovative solutions for Microsoft's cloud hardware infrastructure. - Conceptualizing and communicating design intent to hardware teams, performing what-if scenarios, and working with ODM and SI partners to design mechanical components, systems, and assemblies using CAD software. - Creating prototypes for testing and validation, developing mechanical specifications, and driving best practices for mechanical design across the product portfolio while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards. - Conducting design reviews, generating engineering documentation, developing test plans, and reports to meet project schedules. - Focusing on ensuring part commonality, serviceability, and safety without compromising performance, and proactively selecting and evaluating materials to support Microsoft's sustainability initiative. - Performing structural statics and dynamics simulations to guide design improvements, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams including external vendors and suppliers, and providing engineering support to NPI teams by troubleshooting component and systems issues. - Staying updated on the latest trends and advancements in mechanical engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data center technologies to propose innovative ideas. - Collaborating with the electrical team for ECAD-MCAD Collaboration, providing board outline and connector placement, using ECAD data to facilitate the mechanical design process, and designing heatsinks and air baffles in collaboration with thermal engineers. Qualifications: - Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly for electromechanical issues. - Excellent communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.
